Before Installation

What to Know Before Installing Your Stone Product

Here are some quick tips to note before installing your new natural stone product:

Material Choice

With so many materials to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right product. Of course, all natural stone is beautiful, but you will find that some stone is more conducive to certain areas of your space. Granite, for example, is very durable and is ideal for a kitchen countertop. Marble is also an excellent choice for a countertop, but requires more maintenance.

Style Choice

Aside from selecting the type of stone you would like to use, you will also want to consider the design, the variety of colours available, the texture, and how it will look within the concept of your overall look. If you are working with an interior decorator, they will be able to assist you. Likewise, our professionals can discuss your needs to determine the best choice.

Preinstallation

Before installation, you must remove the existing product, whether it be a formica countertop or tile flooring. Also, you must remove any attachments. The area must be completely clear for safety and to make the installation flow smoothly.

Design/Mould

You will need to select the design or mould you would like the stone to fit. For example, slabs are easy to mould, whereas tile designing can take considerably more time. How you choose to design the area, will make a big difference in the overall design of the area.

Measurement

At C&M Tile, our professionals will come to your location to measure the space and determine the installations required. They will let you know about cabinet restrictions, seams or other important considerations, and provide you with an installation quote.

Support

Especially with countertop installation, the area will need to be reinforced through the use of metal rods and plywood. Any weak points will not be able to support the weight of the granite. This pre-installation step is crucial to a smooth installation.

Sealing

Our professionals fully seal the product to help it keep its natural lustre. We recommend repeating the sealing process every six months for a glossy shine.
